Cricket Ireland have named Ed Joyce as their high-performance batting coach, and he starts the role immediately. He will coach the senior men’s team and work with the male talent pathway.
Ed Joyce’s Role in the Ireland Men’s Coaching Group
Joyce will work with Gary Wilson, the head coach of the men’s team, and Graeme West, the high performance director. His responsibilities cover the batters in the senior side and the young male players coming through the talent pathway.
Joyce spoke about the appointment in a statement. He said staying involved in Irish cricket was a high priority for him after he retired from playing. He also said the hard work done behind the scenes in recent years is clear when he looks at the Ireland men’s side, and that it has prepared the players to compete at international level. He expects to add his own insights and knowledge to help the batting group move forward. “The talent is there, the goal is now consistency,” he said.
Ed Joyce’s Playing Career and Work After the Ireland Women’s Team
Joyce played international cricket for both Ireland and England and retired as a player in 2018. Soon afterwards, he joined the Ireland women’s team as head coach. He held that position for almost six years and resigned in April 2025.
Since leaving the women’s team, Joyce has worked as a batting coach at Gloucestershire in county cricket and at Dublin Guardians in the ETPL. He has also worked as a broadcaster.
Ireland Men’s Latest Series and the 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier
The Ireland men’s team last played in August, when they hosted Afghanistan in a five-match ODI series and lost 4-0. That series remains their most recent international assignment.
Their next major assignment is the 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier, which will be played from February 22 to March 23.
